Stop Losing Your Resources
Updated 7 Aug 2026 · 3 min readI'm going to guess you've been raided at least once. Maybe you logged in to find your food and wood gone and a very smug battle report waiting for you. It's one of the more frustrating things in the game and it's almost entirely preventable.
Resource management in Last Z is less about complex strategy and more about a few consistent habits.
FOOD & WOOD
Used for: Troop training, army upkeep
Sources: Farmhouse, gathering marches, events
Your food disappears faster as your army grows. Send food gathering marches every login without fail.
Used for: Nearly every building upgrade
Sources: Lumberyard, gathering marches
Wood runs out first. Always. Prioritise wood gathering nodes on the map.
STEEL & ZENT
Used for: Advanced upgrades, HQ 31+
Sources: Tyrant rallies, bounty missions, steel nodes
Enable Engage Offline for Tyrant so your troops auto-join rallies.
Used for: High-tier research, premium upgrades
Sources: Trade missions, events, gathering
Treat Zent like your most valuable resource. Never leave large amounts unshielded.
PROTECTION
When someone attacks your base, they loot a percentage of your stored resources above your warehouse protection limit. Everything below that limit is safe — they can't touch it. This is the single most important number to know.
Check your warehouse limit in your resource buildings. Before logging off, compare your stored amounts to this number. If you're over it and your shield is down, you're a target. Either spend resources on queues (building, research, troops) or pop a shield.
Quick rule: shield before sleep, always. It sounds simple but I still see unshielded accounts sitting on millions of RSS every night on my server. Don't be that player.
And one more thing — check your alliance NAP list before attacking anyone. Breaking a NAP by accident makes your whole alliance a target. Not worth it.
How Each Resource Works
Wood is the one that runs out fastest. Almost every upgrade costs huge amounts of it and the production rate never quite feels like it keeps up. Prioritise upgrading Lumberyards when you can, and send gathering marches to wood tiles whenever you're going to be offline for a few hours.
Food gets eaten by your troops constantly. The bigger your army, the faster it disappears. New players often don't realise this and then wonder why their food is always zero. It's your troops. Train a gathering hero and send them to food tiles regularly.
Zent is the one to protect most carefully. It's slow to produce and it's needed for advanced upgrades. Never spend Zent on low-priority things and never leave large amounts unshielded. It's the resource that hurts most to lose in a raid.
Steel comes into play more in mid and late game. By the time you're spending serious steel you should already have good shielding habits. If not, now's the time to build them.
Quick Habits That Actually Help
Send gathering troops every single time you open the game. It takes fifteen seconds and it adds up to a significant income difference over weeks.
Check resource totals before logging off at night. If you're over the warehouse limit and not shielded, either spend some on queues or pop a shield.
Use gathering heroes on marches. A hero with gathering bonuses can increase haul size by 20–40%. Over hundreds of marches that's a massive difference.
- Send gathering marches every login
- Check warehouse limit before logoff
- Shield Zent — it hurts most to lose
- Enable Offline Engage for Tyrant rallies
- Max-level resource buildings early (terrible ROI)
- Leave excess Zent unshielded overnight
- Ignore Tyrant rallies — free steel
- Forget your alliance NAP list
